This stunning place, situated in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey, is a natural site which together with the ancient town of Hierapolis, has become a special tourist attraction. Pamukkale, meaning “Cotton Castle ”in Turkish, displays its natural beauty through its hot water springs and travertines of white, hard and shinny calcium. These travertines form spectacular pools and waterfalls of different sizes.

The thermal waters, caused by the underground volcanic activity, garnish the terraces with carbonate minerals. The landscape is amazing and a walk among these pools and waterfalls will be a delight for your soul. Although only some of the pools are supposed to be used by the tourists, I advise you to take your bathing suit with you. A bathe in these hot waters is a unique experience. You should definitely not miss Cleopatra’s pool. This is a pool with thermal water, specially designed for tourists, where you can spend relaxing moments.

The ruins of Hierapolis are an important part of the scenery. The tourists who come to Pamukkale can admire both the Roman ruins and the Roman theater. You should definitely visit this archaeological museum, where you will admire a lot of artifacts from Hierapolis and from other ancient cities. All these exhibitions are displayed in both open and closed spaces.

A lot of hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops are situated nearby. You will certainly spend a few pleasant days in Pamukkale, especially if you choose to stay at one of the hotels which have their own thermal water pools.
