Every city is unique and it has both beautiful and less beautiful sides, but your perception depends on your own expectations or on your capacity to look on the bright side of things. Not all cities “cater for all tastes”, but in my opinion Amsterdam perfectly fits in this category.

Amsterdam is one of those vibrant cities that have a lot of different things to offer. Defined by an overwhelming nonconformity, it is a complete city at all points. My visit in Amsterdam was not very long, but it was enough to be impressed by the atmosphere and the energy of this city. Amsterdam Centraal, the beautiful central station was the first building that I visited there.

Imposing and charming with an interesting architecture, this building looks like it welcomes you to this amazing city. Not far from this station there is a huge bicycle parking. You might not know but there are actually over 800.000 bicycles in Amsterdam. Cycling is a way of life and a great passion for the residents of this city. If you love riding a bike, this city gives you the perfect opportunity to go for a ride and explore its amazing sights.

I am sure you will be delighted by the simple and yet sophisticated architecture which is highlighted by a variety of narrow streets, canals and bridges. In my opinion walking in the streets of Amsterdam is a must if you would like to admire the beautiful buildings and also to have a wonderful shopping experience. The Nine Streets is the best place where you can go shopping in Amsterdam. There are more than 200 different shops situated in this area. These streets connect the main canals between Leidsegracht and Raadhuisstraat.

The Venice of the North, the way Amsterdam is called, is also famous for the beauty of its canals and bridges. If you want to admire the beauty of these canals you can either go for a walk or take a boat tour. These canals give the entire city a special vibration and they represent the iconic image of Amsterdam.

After going for a walk it would be a good idea to visit a few museums. Amsterdam has the highest museum density in the world. There are over 60 different museums that you could choose from. I chose to visit 3 museums from this impressive list: the Sex Museum, the Museum of Medieval Torture Instruments and Madame Tussauds. I can tell you that I don’t regret my choice, in fact it was a lovely experience.

The Red Light District is one of the most famous neighborhoods in Amsterdam. This is actually the oldest part of the city, but the most controversial one. A chaotic atmosphere, a drug and sex paradise, a multitude of sex shops and brothels are the words that perfectly describe this district.

The Red Light District is indeed controversial but interesting to see. As you have probably understood, the capital of the Netherlands is not only about sights, canals, bridges and places, it is also about experiences.Street food in Amsterdam is a culinary experience that you should definitely take. Patatje oorlog(French fries with onions and different sauces), stroopwafels(waffles with different kinds of topping) or the tasty donuts are just a few examples of delicious street food.

All things considered, I really believe that there is no travel demand that Amsterdam cannot meet.

In my opinion this unique architectural style involves a mixture between imagination and creativity. A walk among all these interesting buildings is indeed a wonderful experience, one that will fill you up with energy. When I think about my own experience in Rotterdam, the first thing that comes to my mind is an amazing complex of houses, called the Cube Houses.

Built by Piet Blom, between 1982 and 1984, these unique houses have a spectacular design and are definitely my favorite buildings in Rotterdam. The Cube Houses or Kubuswoningen are located on Overblaak Street, very close to the Blaak Metro station. There are 38 small cubes and two so called “super-cubes”, all attached to each other. Built on top of a pedestrian bridge, these dwellings have an interesting hexagonal structure that gives you the feeling of a tilted building.

Their exterior was embellished with zinc panels and double-glazed windows. If you look at them from the outside, the houses seem to be pretty small but they are actually built on three floors. The ground floor is actually a lobby, the first floor contains a living- room and an open kitchen, the second floor contains two bedrooms and a bathroom and the top floor can be used as an extra bedroom, a small garden or as a recreational area. The top floor has a pyramidal shape which offers you a great view over the city.

A few of these houses can be visited and this is an experience you shouldn’t miss. An option would be to stay at the Stayokay Hostel which is a complex of several Cube Houses. It will definitely be an interesting experience. Another option is the Show Cube, which is a kind of museum where you can admire the interior of the Cube Houses and a few exhibits related to the project itself. You might not know but this whole project is based on an abstract idea.It is said that Piet Blom tried to create a stone forest and this is why the houses look like trees.

Whether you love abstract art or not visiting the Cube Houses in Rotterdam will be an amazing and interesting experience.

It is obvious why the Netherlands Architecture Institute was founded in Rotterdam. Located on the North Sea, the city of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe.

Also known as “Manhattan on the Meuse”, Rotterdam hosts three important rivers: the Rhine, the Meuse and the Scheldt. These three rivers create a unique landscape that perfectly blends together with its impressive skyscrapers.

My visit in Rotterdam was quite short but enough to be impressed by its unique architectural style. I was completely stunned by its imposing skyscrapers. A walk among its astonishing buildings is indeed an unforgettable experience and every moment you spend in these locations will be very entertaining.

You could visit the Erasmus Bridge, which is Rotterdam’s iconic bridge, The White House, which is the first skyscraper in Europe, the modern Central Station, the Laurence Church, the Groot Handelsgebouw or the Wholesale Building, which is one of the symbols of its reconstruction or the famous Cube Houses.

I have to admit that the innovative Cube Houses are among my favorite buildings in Rotterdam. I could definitely look at them for hours. When I think about my visit in Rotterdam, I feel a trace of regret thinking that I didn’t visit more.

I would have liked to visit a few more museums, attractions, shopping centers and I would have liked to enjoy more the heady atmosphere of the city. Heady is the word that perfectly describes the architecture of Rotterdam.

In my opinion this city was born from its own ashes, because if you didn’t know, Rotterdam’s centre was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. I really believe that every failure is an opportunity and the destruction of Rotterdam was meant to happen in order to become a stronger economic, cultural and architectural center.

The Academy of Urbanism voted Rotterdam as 2015 European City of the Year. I believe that this city truly deserves this title and I am sure you will think the same after your own experience there.

All things considered, my advice is to visit Rotterdam especially if you want to discover and admire a unique and innovative architectural style.

If you are an art lover but at the same time a person who loves having fun, the place I am going to talk about perfectly meets both these demands. This place is Madame Tussauds, the most famous wax museum in the world, with branches in several important cities.

The branch in Amsterdam hosts a collection of celebrities such as: famous musicians, film stars, sport stars, famous politicians and inventors, royal and historical figures and so on. This museum blends together the art of wax modeling with the fun and enjoyment of taking a lot of pictures with your favorite stars. It is really pure art to play each of these waxworks in the smallest details. What really makes this place interesting is the fact that each setting seems to be perfectly chosen to point out the exhibit’s personality and the idea of perfection. It doesn’t matter what you prefer when it comes to celebrities because it is practically impossible not to find a few of your favorites there. If I haven’t convinced you to go on this adventure yet, maybe the following pictures will help you decide and add Madame Tussauds on your list of “things to do in Amsterdam”.

If I had to describe Amsterdam, I could write pages and pages about this amazing city. Amsterdam is a really vibrant city with an interesting architecture, beautiful canals, lovely bridges, an impressive list of museums and an overwhelming nonconformity. In my opinion this dose of nonconformity is what really makes Amsterdam different and special.

I would say that the capital of the Netherlands is a city of all possibilities, because there is no travel demand that Amsterdam cannot meet. Amsterdam is a city that “caters for all tastes”. I consider this to be the phrase that perfectly describes the city. The Venice of the North, as it is called, should be admired and discovered piece by piece.

You should definitely take your time when you decide to visit Amsterdam. What you probably don’t know about Amsterdam is the fact that this city has the highest museum density in the world, with over 60 different museums. If you are a museum lover, Amsterdam is the perfect destination.

When it comes to visiting the museums in Amsterdam the choice belongs to you, but in my opinion there are three museums that you should definitely add on your list: the Sex Museum, the Museum of Medieval Torture Instruments and Madame Tussauds. You should know that all these museums are located in the center of Amsterdam and that they are very close to each other. Their position will give you the possibility to visit all of them in just one day.

1. The Sex Museum or the Venustempel is the first and the oldest sex museum in the world.”Sex is the most natural thing in the world” says the slogan of this museum. You can find a collection of things that are related to sex here: photos, statues, paintings, videos, recordings and many other interesting objects.

2. The Museum of Medieval Torture Instruments is an interesting museum that displays different objects of torture and also pictures and sketches about how people were actually tortured in the past. You should know that this is not the only museum which is related to the subject of torture in Amsterdam. The Torture Museum is another popular museum that debates on the same subject.

3. Madame Tussauds or the Wax Museum is a really interesting museum which displays the art of wax modeling. Founded by wax sculptor Marie Tussaud, the museum has branches in several important cities in the world, including Amsterdam. You can admire a collection of wax statues here which will impress you with their perfection.

It will be a wonderful experience to plunge into the world of famous people because this museum hosts a big number of celebrities from both past and present: royal figures, famous musicians, film stars, sport stars, important politicians, famous inventors, historical figures and so on.

Madame Tussauds will be a real adventure, so get ready to take a lot of pictures with your favorite celebrities.

You will definitely not regret if you add these museums on your trip list, because they are worth experiencing and they represent very well the unconventional side of Amsterdam.
