If I had to describe Amsterdam, I could write pages and pages about this amazing city. Amsterdam is a really vibrant city with an interesting architecture, beautiful canals, lovely bridges, an impressive list of museums and an overwhelming nonconformity. In my opinion this dose of nonconformity is what really makes Amsterdam different and special.
I would say that the capital of the Netherlands is a city of all possibilities, because there is no travel demand that Amsterdam cannot meet. Amsterdam is a city that “caters for all tastes”. I consider this to be the phrase that perfectly describes the city. The Venice of the North, as it is called, should be admired and discovered piece by piece.
You should definitely take your time when you decide to visit Amsterdam. What you probably don’t know about Amsterdam is the fact that this city has the highest museum density in the world, with over 60 different museums. If you are a museum lover, Amsterdam is the perfect destination.

When it comes to visiting the museums in Amsterdam the choice belongs to you, but in my opinion there are three museums that you should definitely add on your list: the Sex Museum, the Museum of Medieval Torture Instruments and Madame Tussauds. You should know that all these museums are located in the center of Amsterdam and that they are very close to each other. Their position will give you the possibility to visit all of them in just one day.

1. The Sex Museum or the Venustempel is the first and the oldest sex museum in the world.”Sex is the most natural thing in the world” says the slogan of this museum. You can find a collection of things that are related to sex here: photos, statues, paintings, videos, recordings and many other interesting objects.

2. The Museum of Medieval Torture Instruments is an interesting museum that displays different objects of torture and also pictures and sketches about how people were actually tortured in the past. You should know that this is not the only museum which is related to the subject of torture in Amsterdam. The Torture Museum is another popular museum that debates on the same subject.

3. Madame Tussauds or the Wax Museum is a really interesting museum which displays the art of wax modeling. Founded by wax sculptor Marie Tussaud, the museum has branches in several important cities in the world, including Amsterdam. You can admire a collection of wax statues here which will impress you with their perfection.

It will be a wonderful experience to plunge into the world of famous people because this museum hosts a big number of celebrities from both past and present: royal figures, famous musicians, film stars, sport stars, important politicians, famous inventors, historical figures and so on.

Madame Tussauds will be a real adventure, so get ready to take a lot of pictures with your favorite celebrities.

You will definitely not regret if you add these museums on your trip list, because they are worth experiencing and they represent very well the unconventional side of Amsterdam.
