One of these places is the Bay of Kotor( Boka Kotorska), a gorgeous bay over 30 kilometers long which is considered the southernmost fiord in Europe and also one of the most beautiful fiords in the world.<span id="more-2423"></span></p>

<p>Somewhere in the heart of Montenegro, the high mountains and the lovely sea seem to blend together in a harmonious way, creating the overwhelming panorama of the Bay of Kotor.</p>
<p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-2425" src="http://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9491_1-1024x680.jpg" alt="The Bay of Kotor" width="1024" height="680" srcset="https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9491_1-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9491_1-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9491_1-768x510.jpg 768w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9491_1-1080x717.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" />Situated in a secluded area of the bay, the town with the same name is a perfect choice in case you want to spend a few days in an amazing location.  Kotor is actually the most famous town in Montenegro thanks to its beauty and position. Built in a labyrinth system of narrow cobblestone streets, this fortified town is one of the oldest in the area.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-2426 aligncenter" src="http://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9474_1-680x1024.jpg" alt="Kotor" width="680" height="1024" srcset="https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9474_1-680x1024.jpg 680w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9474_1-199x300.jpg 199w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9474_1-768x1157.jpg 768w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9474_1-1080x1626.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></p>
<p>It seems that the past has perfectly blended with the present and this fusion has given the town that special touch of mystery.</p>
<p>The architectural style still displays a powerful Venetian influence, especially in the old part of the town. It’s obvious why since Kotor was under the Venetian influence for almost 400 years. The Venice of Montenegro, the way Kotor is called, is blessed with beautiful old buildings, churches, palaces, squares and museums.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-2427 aligncenter" src="http://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9453_1-680x1024.jpg" alt="Kotor" width="680" height="1024" srcset="https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9453_1-680x1024.jpg 680w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9453_1-199x300.jpg 199w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9453_1-768x1157.jpg 768w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9453_1-1080x1626.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></p>
<p>Once you enter the beautiful Sea Gate, you can admire the lovely Arms Square, St. Tryphon’s Cathedral, the Clock Tower and also the small St. Luke’s Square with St. Nicholas’ Church and St. Luke’s Church.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-2428 aligncenter" src="http://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9606_1_1-680x1024.jpg" alt="Kotor" width="680" height="1024" srcset="https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9606_1_1-680x1024.jpg 680w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9606_1_1-199x300.jpg 199w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9606_1_1-768x1157.jpg 768w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9606_1_1-1080x1626.jpg 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></p>
<p>The town of Kotor is also associated with Dubrovnik thanks to its lovely walls and this is why it’s also called Mini-Dubrovnik. These impressive walls are very famous and a lot of tourists choose to follow the path near the walls and climb the 1350 stairs in order to visit the lovely St. John’s Castle.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-2430 aligncenter" src="http://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9497_1-680x1024.jpg" alt="Kotor" width="680" height="1024" srcset="https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9497_1-680x1024.jpg 680w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9497_1-199x300.jpg 199w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9497_1-768x1157.jpg 768w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9497_1-1080x1626.jpg 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></p>
<p>It is true that the road to the castle is a difficult one, but it’s definitely worth the effort.Once you reach the top you can visit the castle and also admire the spectacular panorama over the Bay of Kotor.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-2429 alignnone" src="http://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9490_1-1024x680.jpg" alt="The Bay of Kotor" width="1024" height="680" srcset="https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9490_1-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9490_1-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9490_1-768x510.jpg 768w, https://www.hikertips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC_9490_1-1080x717.jpg 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" />Less known but equally interesting is the fact that Kotor hosts hundreds of cats and that it is full of meters of laundry. Don’t be amazed if everywhere you look you will see cats and laundry which flutter in the wrought iron balconies! These aspects give Kotor a very personal touch.</p>
<p>So, if you want to admire the beauty of the entire area, don’t hesitate and book a flight to Kotor.</p>
