If I had to think about this aspect and also about my first travel experience in Croatia, one of the things that I really wanted to do and I didn’t manage to accomplish, was to visit Dubrovnik. This year, I took another trip to Croatia and I have finally visited this lovely city.

Maybe Dubrovnik is not the most spectacular city in the world, but it is definitely a city which deserves everyone’s attention. It has an authentic charm and somehow it irradiates a special vibration. The old name of the city is the Republic of Ragusa and it means “oak grove”.

The entire structure of the old city is built on a rocky peninsula and it embellishes the Adriatic coast. Thanks to its position and to its architectural beauty, Dubrovnik is also named the Pearl of the Adriatic Sea.

Situated in the region of Dalmatia, Dubrovnik is considered a perfect example of the successful blend between the Baroque, the Gothic and the Renaissance architectural style. However, in the old part of the city the predominant architectural style is the Baroque style.

Dubrovnik is also considered the “Queen of Tourism” in Croatia and it is annually visited by a lot of tourists. The image of Dubrovnik that the tourists can admire from the top of the cliffs is absolutely breathtaking. The narrow and marble streets are not any less beautiful. Once you enter Pile Gate, which is the great gateway to the old city, you can admire a number of lovely monasteries, churches, palaces, fountains, fortresses and other interesting buildings. St. Blaise’s Church, the Franciscan Monastery, St. Saviour’s Church, Big Onofrio’s Fountain, the Sponza Palace, the Rector’s Palace and the medieval fortresses Lovrijenac and Bokar are among the most famous tourist attractions in the city.Once you enter Stradun, which is the main street in the old city, you will notice that the predominant colors are beige and gray.

Even if there are a lot of beautiful things to admire in Dubrovnik, its ancient walls are the most famous tourist attraction. An interesting system of turrets, towers and forts covers almost two kilometers around the city and offers spectacular views. Once you get to the top of the walls, Minceta Tower is the final destination. These beautiful walls make Dubrovnik one of the most beautiful walled cities in the world. The epic fantasy series “Game of Thrones” was filmed here, an aspect which significantly increased the notoriety of the city.

Even if the city is a famous seaport nowadays and the authorities have built a new port, the Old Harbor of Dubrovnik and its gorgeous views are more appreciated by the tourists.

All things considered, you should definitely plan a trip there and discover the beauty of Dubrovnik.

Located along the Krka River in Croatia, this national park will delight you with its diversified flora and fauna. Krka National Park shelters a variety of birds, fish and mammals. The whole place looks special and unique and it combines amazing landscapes, beautiful forests and spectacular waterfalls which are formed on travertine terraces. These terraces covered by moss and vegetation make the entire place really special. The beauty of nature is not the only aspect that will impress you when it comes to Krka National Park. There are many other things that you can do there in order to enjoy yourself. You can take a boat trip, visit the museum and the little churches, relax in one of the restaurants there and even go shopping for souvenirs. If you are an adventurer, this is a perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. It is very important to choose a specialized agency for your own safety. The skippers will initiate you in this sport and they will give you suitable equipment: a special neoprene suit with a helmet, a life jacket and a paddle .

In my opinion, Croatia is one of the best countries to practice this sport, especially if you are a beginner.

The Cetina River flows through the beautiful city of Split. This wild and spectacular river is perfect for white water rafting. You will also have the chance to enjoy the variety of flora and fauna of this river, the amazing waterfalls, caves and the beauty of its crystal green waters.

In my opinion you should do rafting only in summer, even though you have the chance to try it all year long.

In case you decide to try rafting, you might need water shoes, a swimming suit and a towel. Listen carefully and respect the safety instructions and wear thin and comfortable clothes!

The feeling this sport gives you will definitely leave you speechless. The adrenaline rush that comes from rafting is something you have never felt before. I could go on talking about this sport, but the best way to understand what I’m trying to tell you is to actually try rafting.

This ecosystem is an authentic natural treasure which shelters a rich and diversified fauna and flora: plants, birds, fish and mammals. This place is an exceptional source of peace and serenity and it has the power to offer you unique moments in the middle of nature. You will be fascinated by the amazing and spectacular waterfalls that are formed on travertine terraces. These terraces are covered by moss and other types of vegetation.

Skradinski Buk is the lowest waterfall formed along the Krka River and also the most popular travertine waterfall in the park. In my opinion this is the most beautiful area in the entire park. Roski Slap is another very beautiful waterfall, formed in the same travertine system. This lovely park has the power to make you feel inner peace and harmony through a unique variety of landscapes .

You can complete this incredible experience in one of the spiritual centers located inside the park, the Catholic Visovac Monastery or the Orthodox Krka Monastery. I suggest you spend at least one full day in this national park.  You can choose a  boat tour or just to go for a walk on its footpaths , but regardless of your choice you will definitely spend great moments in Krka National Park.

The tourists can also visit a small museum, where they can admire traditional objects. They can taste traditional food in one of the restaurants situated in the park and they can also buy a lot of things from the souvenir shops.

Although this country is famous for its spectacular national parks and Krka is not the largest national park there, it is unique and it is a place you should not miss if you ever visit Croatia.
