The Museum of Yugoslav History is definitely a place that should be on your trip list in case you ever get to Belgrade. This place is very interesting because it displays the history of a country which doesn’t exist anymore. I’m talking about the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Situated in Dedinje, a peaceful district in Belgrade, in no 6, Boticeva Street, this museum is dedicated to Marshal Josip Broz Tito. He became the president of Yugoslavia in 1953 and he was one of the most significant personalities of his time.

The Museum of Yugoslav History is actually a complex of museums which consists of three buildings: The May 25th Museum, the Old Museum and the House of Flowers.

The May 25th Museum represents the present that the city of Belgrade offered president Tito on his 70th birthday. It is the first museum in the complex and it displays an interesting collection of pictures and objects.

The Old Museum reunites all the presents Tito received when he was the president of Yugoslavia.

Built as a winter garden, the House of Flowers displays a collection of batons and it shelters the room of remembrance and Tito’s grave.

The museum is situated in a very beautiful area with a lot of green spaces. In order to be able to visit the entire museum you will have to spend quite a few hours there.

All things considered, the Museum of Yugoslav History is definitely one of those must-see places, in case you are planning a trip to Belgrade. You don’t have to take my words for granted but you can definitely take a look at the following pictures which might convince you to give this museum a chance.

Ružica Church is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Belgrade and also one of the oldest Serbian Orthodox churches in the city.

Situated in the southern part of the ancient Kalemegdan Citadel, the Church of Roses, the way it is called in English, is surrounded by the ruins of the ancient fortress. Used as a gunpowder warehouse and then converted into a military church, the edifice has witnessed quite a few violent events. After going through such bloody events which didn’t leave it untouched, Ružica Church was finally renovated by the Russian architect Nikolay Krasnov, in 1925.

The exterior walls are covered by plants and if you visit the church when everything is green, the image you will witness will be incredible.

The entrance of the church is guarded by two imposing statues, which symbolize two soldiers from the World War I. They are actually the symbol of all the brave soldiers who lost their lives during that cruel war.

The interior of the church is simple but original at the same time and it is very appreciated by the tourists who visit this edifice. It is decorated with a few ornaments made out of weapons and ammunition used in the World War I. Ružica Church shelters a unique chandelier in the world, made out of rifle and pistol bullets, Serbian sabers, cannon ammunition and parts of military trunks.

Beyond all these aspects, I also liked this church thanks to its special vibration. Ružica Church is the type of place which seems to be loaded with pure energy.

All things considered, I definitely believe that you should add the lovely Ružica Church to your trip list, in case you are going to visit Belgrade!

Imposing is exactly the adjective I would use if I had to describe St. Sava’s Temple in just one word.

I discovered this church during my trip to Belgrade, a city which surprised me in a very pleasant way. Considered the symbol of Belgrade, this 81 meter-tall religious edifice seems to dominate the entire city. St. Sava’s Temple is the biggest Orthodox Church in the Balkans and also one of the biggest in the world.

The church is situated in Vracar, one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Belgrade. As the name suggests, the edifice is dedicated to Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox church. The legend says that the church was built exactly on the place where the Turks have burnt the relics of Saint Sava.

Painted in white and green, the exterior is pretty simple, but I’m sure that the interior, which is being rehabilitated at the moment, will compensate this simplicity. Only the basement of the church has been rehabilitated so far and it looks like a real masterpiece. From frescoes and icons to chandeliers and lighted columns, everything in that basement is simply impressive.

This place is loaded with a special type of energy which gives you a deep feeling of inner peace. I’m sure that the interior will look absolutely amazing and I really want to revisit this church once the construction is finished. However, it is important to know that the church is functional and you can attend the sermons held there.

All things considered, make sure you will not miss the imposing St. Sava’s Temple in case you plan to visit Belgrade.

I must confess that I have never thought of visiting Belgrade until last year, when I planned a trip to Montenegro. I added the largest city in Serbia to my trip list with the intention of visiting it on my way back from Montenegro, but my plans failed.

Even if I didn’t visit Belgrade last year, I didn’t give up on the idea and this year I managed to spend a few days in this lovely city.

To my great surprise, Belgrade is a very interesting city and it displays a lovely contrast between the old and the new architecture.

Situated at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, the capital of Serbia hides a tumultuous history. The trail of the last war can still be seen on the walls of some buildings. It might be slightly shocking to see the ruins of the buildings which were bombed during the war in Kosovo, in 1999. The NATO bombings have caused significant damages to the city, but Belgrade shows these damages with great pride.

“The White City”, the translation of the word Belgrade, is actually a very colorful and vibrant settlement. Once you get to the city center, you will find yourself in the middle of a lively atmosphere, in an area full of modern buildings and a lot of cafes and shops. For example, the pastry and café of Moscow Hotel is a top location for the tourists thanks to its delicious cakes and interesting architectural design. The exterior of this hotel is painted in a lovely combination of colors and this is why it is considered one of the most famous tourist attractions in the city.

The National Museum and the National Theater are two significant buildings in Belgrade, which can be admired in the same area.

The House of the National Assembly, the Presidential Palace and the City Hall are also situated very close to the city center and they are worth visiting.

In the middle of this modern vibe you will discover the lovely Skadarlija Street, which is embellished with rustic buildings. This bohemian cobblestone street reminds of the old Belgrade and it is the place where you can discover the authentic Serbian atmosphere. In case you want to taste some delicious traditional dishes, one of the restaurants situated in Skadarlija Street will be a perfect choice.

If you return to the main boulevard of the city, you will understand why Belgrade is called ”the city that never sleeps”. This boulevard is always full of people and it gives you the feeling of a fast paced city. This main boulevard leads to the ancient Kalemegdan Citadel or Belgrade Fortress, which is considered the treasure of the city. Here, you can admire the remains of the ancient walls, the lovely Ruzica Church, the Military Museum and the famous statue called Pobednik( Victor’s Statue).

If you choose to take a walk through the lovely Kalemegdan Park, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a few lovely views over the entire city.

When it comes to religious edifices, St. Sava’s Temple is the undeniable symbol of the city of Belgrade. This cathedral is considered the biggest Orthodox church in the Balkans and one of the biggest in the world. Another religious edifice that deserves to be visited is St. Mark’s Church.

Belgrade hosts a number of museums which guard its cultural, religious and military heritage, but one in particular should definitely not be missed. I’m talking about the Museum of Yugoslav History or Tito’s Mausoleum.

These are in my opinion the most interesting places in Belgrade, but there are certainly many more to be discovered there. To conclude, even if you haven’t thought of visiting Belgrade, you should do it because it is a city which deserves your attention.

1.The House of the National Assembly
