There are places in this world with such a sad story that words are simply not enough to talk about them. A perfect example in this regard is Slavin, a memorial monument and military cemetery in Bratislava.
It goes without saying that I cannot say I liked this place, but in my opinion Slavin is the type of place which has a special vibration and a very touching story.
This national monument was built to commemorate almost 7000 Soviet soldiers who died during the World War II while they were trying to liberate the city of Bratislava.
The memorial cemetery shelters a great number of graves, statues, monuments and a 39,5 meter high obelisk. Topped by an 11-meter tall statue of a victorious Soviet soldier carrying a flag, the obelisk is considered the main attraction of the entire place.
Situated on a hill, in a very quiet area, Slavin offers great views across the city. The cemetery is set in a wealthy district in Bratislava which means that the area around Slavin is a pleasant place for a walk.
Despite the sad vibration of this place, Slavin War Memorial is a very interesting tourist attraction. In case you plan to visit Bratislava make sure you add Slavin War Memorial to your trip list!
